What we learned from signal processing:

To test the reliability of the heartbeat detection, another system would have to be implemented to monitor the heartbeat detection system. This was done by analyzing the previous three detected heartbeats. If the period between any of the heartbeats was not in the range of 0.3s to 1.5s, there is a high likelihood that these beats were not identified correctly, since these periods are outside of a reasonable BPM range. Furthermore, if the two subsequent periods varied by more then some threshold, (0.3s was used in our testing), there is a high likelihood these beats were also not detected correctly. Thus, given the N minutes output from the heartbeat detection system for a specific amount of time, we will be able to test what percentage of the time has usable detected heartbeats to assess the reliability of the acquisition system.
